Federal compliance

UCR registration: the deadline and what it costs

A federal registration programme that collects an annual fee from carriers, brokers and freight forwarders operating in interstate commerce. The fee is banded by fleet size.

Who this applies to

Carriers operating in interstate commerce, including a single-truck operation. Brokers and freight forwarders register too, in their own bracket.

How the date works

Registration for the coming year opens in the autumn and is due by December 31. Enforcement of the new registration year begins on January 1.

Where to file

File at ucr.gov

The fee is set by fleet-size bracket and published each year by the UCR Plan. Third-party filing services add a processing markup on top of the government fee, and some quote a stale base fee alongside it.

FAQs

Can I file UCR myself?

Yes. The national registration system at ucr.gov takes the filing directly. Third-party services add a markup for submitting the same form.

What sets my fee?

The number of commercial motor vehicles you operate places you in a bracket. The bracket table is published annually by the UCR Plan.
